A 50-year-old man presented with multiple, purple colored, flat topped, papules and plaques of lichen planus over left shoulder and back of trunk of two weeks duration [Figure 1]. He gave a history of receiving “cupping therapy” at these sites one month ago for lichen planus (of hands and feet). Small incisions were made on the skin before cupping.

Cupping (Hijama in arabic) is a treatment modality in alternative medicine, practised in many countries. The treatment induces a suction effect at the site of application of the cup. Making small incisions before cupping is a modification practiced by some. Koebnerization, can explain the eruption of lesions of lichen planus at the sites of “cupping.”
