Dear friends,
We are bringing you the second issue of Golden Jubilee Year of IADVL Kerala. We are happy to publish in this issue, the “History of IADVL Kerala,” by Dr. Laxmi V. Nair, one of the senior dermatologists in the state.
In the invited commentary section, Dr. Jecko Thachil shares some interesting viewpoints on platelet-skin connection. This is followed by a symposium on three different aspects of basal cell carcinoma (epidemiology, pathology, and treatment).
Apart from our regular features (review articles, original articles, study letter, resident’s page, net cases, net letters, and net image), we are introducing two new sections from this issue onward. Considering the keen interest shown by the residents, faculty, and practitioners in quiz programs, we are starting a section devoted to quiz questions in dermatology. The articles submitted under this category should have 30 questions (focused on a particular topic in dermatology) and their answers with brief explanatory notes. We have also introduced a section called “net educational video for residents.” We invite videos of basic laboratory procedures and demonstration of clinical signs that are relevant to the dermatologists. The requisites for submissions under this category are available in the journal website under author guidelines. The current issue has quiz questions from “tumors of skin and appendages.” It also has two educational videos demonstrating the technique of Gram stain, and skin scraping and potassium hydroxide mount for demonstration of fungi (in superficial mycosis). You can find more videos and net quizzes in our ahead of print section. This is a small venture by the Journal of Skin and Sexually Transmitted Diseases to channelize the enormous potential of an academic journal toward teaching and learning.
Hope you find this issue interesting and enriching,
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Sarita Sasidharanpillai
